Lumineers

Though a type of dental veneers, dental Lumineers are different. They are ultra-thin and do not require the molding or reshaping of the affected tooth in most cases. They are made to fit and bond over the teeth, allowing the tooth to look natural and beautiful. Because of their growing popularity, Dr. Elizabeth Kilpatrick-Fox offers these as part of our cosmetic dentistry services.

Advantages of Lumineers

Lumineers are mostly used for cosmetic purposes as they improve the aesthetics of your smile and teeth tremendously. They also offer numerous advantages to our patients, including:

  • Protection for the Natural Teeth – Traditional veneers often require to remove dental enamel in order to bond solidly. As a result, the process of applying dental veneers is irreversible. On the other hand, dental Lumineers can be reversed in most cases and you can have them removed if you are not satisfied with your appearance.
  • Cost-Effectiveness – Lumineers cost less than typical veneers yet can last for a long-time. This makes them very cost-effective, especially since they do not affect your natural teeth.
  • Zero Discomfort – As they are contact lens-thin, roughly 0.2 mm thick, they are very comfortable to wear. Moreover, the procedure of applying Lumineers is pain-free as no tooth reshaping is required. That is why anesthesia is not required for most patients.
  • Beautiful, Healthy Smile – Lumineers is a customized cosmetic dentistry solution that can effectively resolve chips, cracks, and uneven size and spacing issues in most patients.

The Procedure for Applying Lumineers

At Dr. Elizabeth Kilpatrick-Fox, the process of applying dental Lumineers traditionally takes two visits. Before that, though, our dentist will check whether or not this is the best solution for you. While dental Lumineers are suitable for most people, you may need other treatments to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of your teeth. For instance, if your teeth are too uneven or the spaces between them are too large, we may recommend braces instead for better, long lasting results.

Dr. Fox cleans and prepares the tooth during the first visit and takes an impression of it. The impression, along with photos of your mouth, dental records, and other valuable records and information, is sent to our trusted laboratory to create Lumineers.

During the second visit, which is usually a couple of weeks later, the Lumineers are first fitted onto your teeth to make sure they are a good match. Once our dentist and you are satisfied with the results, your teeth will be mildly etched and the lumineers will be bonded one by one. Dr. Fox will finally check your bite to make sure that it has not been affected by the new addition to your teeth.
